How can I describe this house and its surroundings with a few words? It`s almost impossible.
It was our first time in Tuscany so we did not know what to expect, but the beauty of the surroundings struck me as we were getting close to the villa. Old, small picturesque towns painted in a colour palette of light orange, pink, peach... As we drove up from the road and entered the premises, the most wonderful smell of lavender surrounded us. When we exited the car, we were met with silence, except from the sounds of birds and bees. There are no other houses (but one) around. The only external sounds were from an old church a couple of kilometres away and every 15 minutes you could hear the bells ring once, I loved hearing those bells.
The people in the neighbouring house was a quiet couple who we met outside as they were keeping the surrounding area around the house in wonderful order, including the kitchen garden which were bursting with all sorts of vegetables, in which we were allowed to help ourselves. It was a dream to send the kids out with a basket to get us some vegetables for dinner, and have them returning with broccoli, figs, tomatoes, to mention some.
At arrival day we were met by Alessia, Jonathan and Ellis´representative. She showed us into the house, where beautiful flowers were set out, olives and honey from the garden and wonderful music set the atmosphere for the week to come. She was very helpful throughout the week and were always answering us right away and gave us helpful advice.
And then the house…. Its difficult to describe the house without using clichés…. Each room had its own personality and wonderful views of the hilly landscape outside. And they are all equally beautiful. As Alessia gave us all info about the house, keys etc, the kids had been all over the house and came back to the kitchen from all angels – the house has several stairways, corners and plateaus and in the beginning we did not really find our way. It’s a very personal house and even though I never met Jonathan, I feel I know him a bit from all the pictures, the art, the music and all the books throughout the house. Jonathan were also keeping in touch throughout the stay, answering questions and being very available.
The house is located close to “everything”, like the walled town Lucca, the village Lucchio 780 above sea level, and the beautiful canyon park in Bagni di Lucca, all worth while seeing.
We simply loved this house and there is not one bad thing to comment on, on the contrary. We are definitely coming back.
